He was a member of Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church and retired from BASF with 38 years of service. Survived by wife, Frances Cannon McCarter of Morristown; sons, Sam McCarter of Sevier County and Bill McCarter Morristown; daughters, Mary Alice McCarter of Jefferson City and Martha Humphrey and husband, Tony of Knoxville. Funeral service will be 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2004 from the Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mike Justice and Dr. Howard Shipley officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Monday for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service at Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church or Cemetery.
