LEONA LORENA COX THARP, born September 3, 1917 to Luther Riley and Estella Rudolph Cox in Jefferson City, TN, the eldest of five children, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Franklin Tharp; daughter, Helen Juanita Tharp; granddaughter, Shannon Renee Tharp; brothers, John Anderson and Alger Earl Cox; and sister, Cleda Helen Cox Fielden. Herbert and Lorena were married October 5, 1940 and made their home in Talbott, TN for 32 years before moving to New Market. She was an active member of Talbott Baptist Church before moving her membership to Pleasant Grove Baptist in New Market. She is survived by her sons and daughers-in-law, Harold and Karan Tharp of Orlando, FL, and Wayne and Sharon Tharp of Morristown, TN; daughter, Dorthy Tharp Johnston of Douglasville, GA; grandchildren Tracy Johnston of Douglasville, GA; Deidre and Adrea Tharp of Orlando, FL, Shauna and Matthew Tharp of Morristown, TN; sister and brother-in-law, Nadine and Harold Romines of New Market; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Johnny Mills officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at the Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the services at the funeral home.
