He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. Lanis was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He retired from U. S. Steel Zinc Mines after 39 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Vadna Brooks Barbee; sister, Shirley Barbee Ballinger; and brothers, J. D. and Dale Barbee. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mildred Chamberlain Barbee; children, Sherry Carpenter, Darrell (Susie) Barbee, all of Jefferson City, and Debbie (John) Estes of Talbott; grandchildren, John and Matthew Carpenter, Kristen (Jeremy) Loveday, Daniel Estes, John Tyler Bates and Justin Hodge; great granddaughters, McKenzie Carpenter and Caroline Loveday; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Mary Frances Barbee; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2006 at the Farrar Jefferson City Chapel with the Reverend Dennis Caldwell and Reverend Dewayne Whittington officiating. Family and friends will gather at Mountain View Cemetery on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 12:45 p.m. for a 1:00 p.m. graveside interment service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
