Kenneth "John" Childress

KENNETH “JOHN” CHILDRESS, age 95 of Dandridge, TN passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016. He was born September 10 , 1920 in Knoxville, TN the son of the late Hugh L. Childress and Viola Washam Childress and was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Mildred Christine Childress; sisters, Maybell Hogue, Martha Edens; brothers, Vady Wilkerson, Arthur Childress and William Childress. John was member of the Grace Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army and World War II and was retired from Knoxville Board of Education. He is survived by his son, Gary (Wanda) Childress of Trussville, AL.; daughter, Teri (Ted) Phillips of Sevierville; grandchildren, Shane (Shannon) Seiber, Wendy (Marc) Newland, Gary (Audrey) Childress, Jr. Christy (Hank) Goranflo and Eric Phillips; 8 great-grandchildren; special friends, Joe Lawson and Leroy Robbins; several nieces and nephews. A special thanks to his caregivers, Judy Norton, Donna Sutter, Barbara Baker and Kim Sanders. Funeral services, Tuesday, February 2, 2016, 7:00pm at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Sawyer, Rev. Eddie Myers, Rev. Mike Vincent officiating. Interment graveside service with Military Honors will be Wednesday,11:00am at Greenwood Cemetery, Knoxville, TN.
