KATHERINE BALES FOWLEY, age 91, of Knoxville, TN passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Trinity Hills Assisted Living. Preceded in death by husband, Maj. David Preston Fowley, USAF Ret.; parents, Floyd and Reba Bales; twin brother, Carol Bales; and other siblings, Wanda Bales Bennett, Carlisle Bales and Jimmie Bales. She graduated from New Market High School in 1945. She worked briefly for ORNL, moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the F.B.I., then transferred to Wright Patterson AFB where she met her husband, Dave. They traveled extensively, both domestically and abroad. She dedicated her life to raising her children and serving her community, first in the Washington, D. C. area and then in Jefferson City and Knoxville, TN. She was a lifelong member of the UMC, attending Washington Pike UMV for more than 20 years. Katherine spent her life serving others and was a devoted friend and caregiver to many. The family would like to thank Trinity Hills Assisted Living and their Lighthouse Memory Care Unit and UT Home Health and Hospice. She is survived by her children, Douglas G. Fowley (Suzanne T.), Mark D. Fowley (Suzanne L.), and Carole F. Copenhaver; grandchildren, Rachel F. Nana, Claire, Katie and Kyle Copenhaver, Maya, Sean and Audrey Fowley; brother, T. J. Bales (Wanda); sister-in-law, Beulah Bales; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Mary Moody. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Washington Pike UMC with Dr. Pat Polis and Dr. Joe Lusk officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Family and friends will gather at 1:45 p.m. Thursday at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 2:00 p.m. graveside interment service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington Pike UMC and Holston Home for Children.
