Julia Alice Hammer Lundy

Julia Alice Hammer Lundy, 95 of Maryville died Thursday morning, January 11, 2018 after a long and full life. Julia (Judy) was born in Dandridge, TN into the family of a United Methodist minister and lived in many places. She was a graduate of Emory & Henry College, taught in public schools & was director of youth ministry in Bristol, TN; there she met and married John T. Lundy in 1948. They began their service with the United Methodist Church as lay missionaries in the Philippines and Singapore. Upon their return, Judy worked at Munsey UMC in Johnson City and in Nashville, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, The Reverend John Willie and Myrtle Jones Hammer, her brother David Hammer and her husband, John T. Lundy. Survivors include her children Tom Lundy (Cindy) of Hickory, NC; Rebekah Emmerson (Bert) of Maryville; and Mark Lundy (Sheila) of Johnson City; and her sister, Helen Jenkins of Cary, NC. She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will gather at the gravesite at 3:00 pm Friday, Jan. 26th at Seahorn Chapel United Methodist Church in Dandridge. A Celebration of Life will be held at Maryville First United Methodist Church on January 27th at 11:00 am. Family will receive friends from 10-11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UMCOR—United Methodist Committee on Relief, (P.O. Box 340029, Nashville, TN 37203) or the Mission Endowment Fund at Maryville First United Methodist Church (804 Montvale Station Road, Maryville, TN 37803).
