Joyce Ruth Sheckler Heiss

JOYCE RUTH SHECKLER HEISS, age 84, of Jefferson City, TN died Monday, January 2, 2012 at Specialty Select Hospital of Fort Sanders. She served 34 years in Japan as a Southern Baptist missionary before her retirement in 1991. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, Sunday School teacher, member of Jefferson County Genealogical Society, volunteer at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Adult Learning Center and at Jefferson County Archives. She was a graduate of Carson-Newman College and attended Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lula Sheckler. Survivors include her husband, Don of Jefferson City; four children, Jim, John, Paula and Dan; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three siblings, Patricia Saupe and Tom Sheckler of Indiana, and Bill Sheckler of Florida. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14 at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in West View Cemetery.
