Joseph W. Hlinka

Joseph W. Hlinka, age 73 of Dandridge, TN, formerly of Bethlehem, PA, passed away Wednesday evening, May 28, 2003 following a brief illness. He was born Dec. 30, 1929 in New York, NY, the son of Joseph and Anna Patrick Hlinka. A graduate of Stuyvesant High School, he went on to receive his B.M.E. from the City College of New York and his M.S.M.E. from columbia Unversity, where he served as a Research Associate and Special Lecturer for the Mechanical Engineering department from 1953 to 1962. Following his career at Columbia University, he became the Senior Research Engineer and Principal Scientist for Bethlehem Steel Corporation until his retirement in 1991. He and his wife Helen had vacationed in the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains for many years and for the past twelve years had made their residence in Dandridge, TN. He is survived by his wife, Helen Shanter Hlinka of Dandridge, TN; daughter, Cathleen Hlinka of Cleveland, OH; son and daughter in law, John and Doris Hlinka of Melbourne, FL; brothers, Michael and wife Blanche Hlinka of Santa Barbara, CA; sisters, Helen Stockwell of Groton, Conn, Margaret Gore of lake City, FL, Anna Kronk fo Orlando, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003 from the Farrar Funeral Home Chapel in Dandridge, TN. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
