Johnny “Mophead” Herndon, 71, passed away suddenly on Wednesday November 11, 2020. A lifelong resident of the White Pine Community, Johnny was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His quick wit, smile and contagious laugh were known well throughout the community as well as his willingness to always be willing to help a neighbour, or stranger in their time of need. Survived by his wife of fifty years Patty, daughter Lindi Thomas, Grandchildren Landon and Addy Thomas, Brother Danny Herndon, Sister Sandy Mottern and Husband Bobby, Brother-in-law John D. McGough and wife Barbara of Huntsville, AL, Sister-in-law Beth Granoff of Morristown, TN. and Janie Thomas, mother of the late John Thomas and grandmother to Landon and Addy Thomas and many more family and friends.
Johnny served in Vietnam with the US Army 1st Cavalry division and was highly decorated for his service to our country as he was awarded the Purple Heart, and Two Bronze Stars for Valour.
Johnny was preceded in death by Parents John L. Herndon and Lorene (Beck) Herndon. Grandparents James Andrew Fox and Berti Conway Fox and Grandparents John C. Herndon and Lois Herndon. Son-In-Law John Thomas, Sister-in-law Mary Charles Herndon, Father-In-Law and Mother-In-Law John R. and Fayeteen McGough.
To know Johnny was to love him. Visitation will be 12:00 – 5:00 PM Sunday, November 15th at Farrar Funeral in White Pine, TN. Graveside service for family and friends will be Monday November 16th at 11:00 AM at White Pine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
