John Ray Whitt of Jefferson City, passed away on December 27, 2017. He was born on March 13, 1943 in Calhoun, TN. John was the son of the late Walter Whitt and Elizabeth Melvin Whitt, father to the late John Ray Whitt II, and brother to the late Rebekah Whitt and Margaret Whitt Roach (G.O.) He was a lifelong member of Tampico Baptist Church in Grainger County. Surviving family members include his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara Sanders Whitt, daughters, Elaine Smith (Brian) and Amy Tipton (Scott), all of Jefferson City; grandchildren, Tyler Smith (Mackenzie), Whitney Tipton (Drew Stewart), Andrew Tipton (Alex), Alexandria Whitt Satterfield (Jake) and Dalton Ray Whitt; great grandchildren, Marley Satterfield and Avalyn Tipton. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Nancy Roberts, Tom Whitt, Jim Whitt (Janice), Mary Sue Jackson (Junior), Wayne Whitt (Mary Jo) and Bascom Whitt (Rhonda), and many nieces and nephews. John was the owner of Jefferson Cultured Marble in Jefferson City where he was a smart and successful businessman. He will be truly missed by all family and friends. Special thanks to Amedisys Hospice and the services provided by so many. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00. The funeral service will follow beginning at 7:00 p.m. officiated by Reverend Jim Franklin. The graveside service will be on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
