JOHN CRAWFORD TURNER, JR., age 75, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021 as a result of a heart attack. He was born December 23, 1945 to the late John Crawford Turner, Sr. and Aileen Qualls Turner of Knoxville, TN. He was preceded in death by mother-in-law and father-in-law, Paul Reece Hood and Alice Pauline Hood of Knoxville. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Hood Turner; children, Jill Turner Lawson (Todd) and John C. Turner, III; grandchildren, Jordan Todd Lawson (Michelle), Hannah Renee Martin, Keegan Creed Turner, Kenyon Cade Turner; great-grandchildren, Madison, Juliette, Stanton, Archer and Alice; siblings, Katherine White, Rachel Neilson, Nic Turner and Russell Turner. John is retired from KUB after 39 years as telecommunications manager and he was the owner of TennTel communications, NATCO Parking, Turner Properties. He had an associate’s degree in industrial electronics and accounting from Computer Programing Institute (ECPI). He had a CDP certificate in data processing and taught COBOL programming. John was active in various volunteer organizations: Knoxville Jaycees officer, National Foundation March of Dimes ET chapter chairman, United Way, Cancer Society, MS Society patient member, Heart Association, Brazelton Masonic Lodge (member since 1979), Kerbella Shriner, Gideon, Kiros Torch, JCSD (volunteer in police service), Deacon Strawberry Plains Presbyterian Church, Elder Hopewell Presbyterian Church, Security Team Member First Baptist Church in Dandridge, Data Processing Management Association where he held offices local, regional and international (vice-president for 5 years, international president, 1983). He was listed in “Outstanding Young Men of America.” Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Lawson, Jordan Lawson, Keegan Turner, Kenyon Turner, Nick Turner, Ronnie Hood, Sam Hayes, Dan Williamson, Mike French and Tim Collins. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Dandridge, TN with Dr. Justin Terrell and Rev. Brad Napier officiating on March 18, 2021 at 6:30pm. There will be receiving of friends from 5:30 to 6:30pm at the church before the service. Inurnment with Masonic Rites will be on March 19, 2021 at 11:00am at Highland Memorial Gardens, Garden of Valor on Southern Avenue in Knoxville, TN.
