John Anthony (Tony) Mills

John Anthony (Tony) Mills, age 62, was granted his angels wings on May 26, 2011 in Atlanta, GA. Tony was born on July 26, 1948 in Jefferson City, TN to Katherine Elizabeth and Haskell Carl Mills, Sr. Tony was a stand-out student-athlete at Jefferson City High and Carson-Newman College, where he graduated from high school and college, respectively. An avid sports fan, he particularly loved supporting the University of Tennessee basketball and football programs. He began in his professional career as a beloved educator and basketball coach at Jefferson High School, and later taught and coached at Jefferson County High School, Morristown-West High School and Morristown College. A former student recently expressed that ??He shared with us his music, wit, wisdom, and kindness. I celebrate that I knew him and will always be grateful for all he gave and will continue to give through his spirit and all those he touched.? In more recent years, he devoted his time, energies and gifts to disaster assistance and recovery. In fact, he spent the last six years dedicated to assisting the victims of Hurricane Katrina. He is preceded in death by his parents, Katherine Elizabeth Mills and Haskell Carl Mills. Tony leaves a host of friends and family to cherish his memory. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Jill Jackson-Mills; adoring children, Jocelyn Angeleaux Mills Lyons, Darius Ja?Michael Mills, Drew Oliver Mills, Alexandra Elizabeth Mills; grandchildren, Makiah Imani Lyons and Ja?Sun Seyoum Mills; siblings, Linda Mills Moore, Haskell Carl Mills, Jr., Joseph Michael (Joey) Mills, and David Morris Mills; in-laws, Cecilia and Danny Jaucian, Dr. G.F. and Kathee Jackson, Jr., Tim Jackson; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins, including the Carter family, the Smith family, the Cunningham family, the Mattison family, the Dunwoody family, the Burden family, the Langston family and the Donaldson family. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City with Reverend C.C. Mills, Jr. , Reverend Nathaniel Wilson and Reverend E.O. Cole officiating. Interment to follow in West View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
