John Neal Scarlett

John Neal Scarlett, age 59, of New Market, Tennessee, passed away on February 25th, 2025. John Neal was a loyal, loving husband, father, and friend. John Neal graduated from Jefferson County High School in 1983 and attended the University of Tennessee. He was a third-generation row crop farmer and dairyman who loved Jefferson County and lived his life in service to others. In 1993, John Neal served as the Tennessee Young Farmers and Ranchers chairman and was a recipient of the Tennessee Young Farmer of the Year Award and was runner-up for the National Young Farmer of the Year Award. He was a long-time Jefferson County Farm Bureau Board member while also serving on the Jefferson County School Board and more extensively on the County Commission as the budget committee chairman and zoning committee member. John Neal is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Bobbie Scarlett. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Scarlett, children, John Ryan and Jackie Scarlett, brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Susan Scarlett, their children, Justin and Jo Beth Scarlett, aunt and uncle, Frances and Joe Cunningham as well as their children Pam and Mike Cunningham as well as several loving friends. The pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be John Ryan Scarlett, Robert Scarlett, Mike Cunningham, Brian Williams, Rick Moore, Marty Coley, Charlie Simson, George McDonald, Randy Bales, Jimmy Carmichael, Joel Ray Sanford, and Sam Nicholson. Receiving of friends will be conducted on Thursday, February 27th from 10am - 2 pm with services starting at 2pm at Farrar Funeral Home, Jefferson City with burial services to follow at New Market Cemetery with Dr. Shane Johnston officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ag in the Classroom and other agricultural education funds.
