John Franklin Howell entered this world on Wednesday, July 6, 1927, in Jefferson City, Tennessee, and passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 20, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Carrie Howell; sisters, Christine Watkins Brabson and Iva Dean Howell Davis; brothers, Leon “Frog” Howell, Charles, and Richard Howell; and the love of his life, Ellen Ruth Young Howell.
After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. John was a Korean War Veteran and held the rank of Sergeant. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Ellen Ruth on March 29, 1951. This union was cherished for over 64 years. John worked at TVA for over 30 years at the John Sevier Steam Plant in Rogersville, TN. He was elected to the Appalachian Electric Cooperative (AEC) board in 1987 and served until 2014. John was also a member of the Lions Club. He was a member of Martha Davis Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee for many years.
John leaves to cherish his memories: son, Ron Howell of Jefferson City; daughter, Debra Howell of Jefferson City; his adoptive “young uns,” Todd Cunningham of Los Angeles, CA, Darren Cunningham of Jefferson City, Melvina Sexton of Knoxville; “grand young uns,” Mark and Marissa Sexton of Knoxville, and Ja’Licia White of Jefferson City. He also leaves a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City on Tuesday, October 25th 12:00-1:30. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Rev. Nathaniel Wilson, Jr., presiding.
