John Reuben Blomquist

John Reuben Blomquist, age 79, died Wednesday, November 20, 2024, in Dandridge, TN. He had a wonderful life. He was a loving husband, father, and friend. John was born December 24, 1944, to Graham and Thelma Blomquist of Carrabelle, Florida. In high school, he played football, basketball, and baseball, and was the valedictorian of his graduating class. He attended Florida State University where he met Ann in French class. They married in 1968. John served as a sergeant in the US Army in Alabama and Taiwan from 1968 until 1972 where he had top secret clearance.

The family settled in Orlando, Florida, where John finished college and began working for the Orange County government Data Center. During his 31 years there, he worked in a variety of computer positions including programming and finished as a server administrator. John and Ann retired to Dandridge in 2007.

He loved playing basketball, jokes and puns, gardening with fruit trees, and making jam. He spent many hours picking strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries. He loved sharing the paw-paws that he grew. He loved computers and being the “tech support” for his family and friends. For more than a decade, he has volunteered his computer skills at the Jefferson County Archives.

John is preceded in death by his parents and his son Jason. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann, daughter Tate (Florida), son Eric (Florida), and two granddaughters.

A Celebration of Life is planned for 11AM, Monday, December 2, 2024 at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge, TN. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
