John W. (Bill) Witt

REV. JOHN W. (BILL) WITT, age 73, of Talbott, TN and formerly of Jefferson City, TN passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at his residence. He was a longtime prominent clergy, having served this area for many years. He was retired from Appalachian Electric Cooperative with 26 years of service. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Preceded in death by parents, John and Ruby Witt; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Frank Stipes; brother and sister-in-law, Charles F. and Gladys Witt; brother-in-law, Arthur Scalf; sister-in-law, Mae Witt. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Janet Brooks Witt; daughters and sons-in-law, Dolores and Dwayne Moore of Talbott, Shari and Larry Yount of Morristown; son, John D. Witt of Greenville; grandchildren, Brett and Lane Moore, Laura Moore, Jarrod West, Jake West, Caitlin Yount, Chloe Yount; sisters, Edith (Clifford) Berry of Mascot, Dorothy Scalf of Strawberry Plains; brothers, Ray Witt of Knoxville and Jimmy Witt of Mascot; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2009 from the Farrar Jefferson City Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Norris, Rev. Brett Moore, Dr. Dwayne Moore and Dr. Richard Emmert officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Family and friends will gather at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 2:00 p.m. graveside interment service with full military honors.
