OBITUARY:
JOE T. FARRAR, age 72, of White Pine, TN passed away Friday morning, April 15, 2005 at his home following a brief illness. He was born January 24, 1933 in Jefferson City, TN, the son of the late Roy and Aline Farrar, Sr., who were the founders of Farrar Funeral Homes. Preceded in death by sister, Elizabeth Farrar Smith; nephew, William R. ?Bill? Farrar; mother-in-law, Tina ?Granny? Goforth; brother-in-law, Lloyd Moyers; sister-in-law, Jane Henry Farrar. Joe, along with his brothers, James and Roy ?Toad? Farrar, continued the family business. Joe and his wife, Betty, operated and managed the Farrar White Pine location since 1952, serving the families of that community for over 50 years. A graduate of the Tennessee Military Institute, Joe was a prominent member of the White Pine business community, being active in the White Pine Lions Club, Leadvale Lodge #390 F &AM Lodge, Martha Dandridge Chapter #438 Eastern Star, Leadvale Baptist Church, secretary/treasurer of the White Pine Volunteer Fire Department for many years, and a 50 year member of the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association. He is survived by his wife, Betty Goforth Farrar; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Jack Pewitt, Angela and Larry Pressley; grandchildren, Benjamin and Rebekah Pewitt, Nick and Brad Pressley; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Agnes Farrar, Roy Jr. ?Toad? and Helen Farrar, Dr. William ?Bill? and Frances Farrar; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy Jean and Jim Smith; sister, Brenda Wilder; sister-in-law, Patsy Moyers; several nieces and nephews; special nephews and co-workers, Jack and Britt Farrar, who worked with their uncle Joe for many years, and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2005 at the Leadvale Baptist Church with Reverend Charlie Harkleroad, Reverend Charles Robison and Reverend Kenneth Richey officiating. Interment graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2005 at White Pine Cemetery. All funeral directors and funeral service associates will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 17 prior to the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Leadvale Baptist Church, 874 Leadvale Church Road, White Pine, TN 37890, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, c/o Jefferson County High School, 115 W. Dumplin Valley Road, Dandridge, TN 37725, or Powell High School Baseball, c/o coach Jim Porter, P.O. Box 220, Powell, TN 37849.
