James R. Greene Sr., age 94, passed away peacefully after a long battle with dementia. He was a man with a huge heart full of love and laughter. His many jokes always put a smile on everyone’s face. He never met a stranger. He loved sports, especially the Tennessee Vols and New York Yankees. James retired from Jefferson County where he was the jail administrator.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Carl Greene, and Blanch Smith; brother, Carl (Snooks) Greene; sister, Hazel Gass; and grandson, Brian Greene.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Judy Rainwater Greene; daughters, Linda (Chester) Cooper, Melissa (Mark) Smith, and Lise Felker; sons, Rusty (Janice) Greene and Rich (Lora) Dann; grandchildren, Cory (Michelle) Smith, Tammy Potter, Tracy (Dan) Ellis, Lora (Chad) Yoakum, Melissa (Robbie) Graves, Sasha (Kent) Shoffner; great-grandchildren, Reese Yoakum, Jordan Ellis, Lucas Ellis, Charlie and Calvin Smith; great-great granddaughter, Saylor Rae Marsh, and several nieces, nephews, and special friends.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 2:00p.m. at Wesley’s Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Roy Miller officiating. In Lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Tennessee, 6025 Brookvale Lane #307, Knoxville, TN 37919.
