Jessie Eugene Howard

Jessie Eugene Howard, MD, age 86, of Jefferson City, TN and formerly of New Market, TN passed away at his home on September 29, 2013. He graduated from UT Knoxville and UT Health Science Center in Memphis, and completed an obstetrics/gynecology residency at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II as a hospital corpsman and pharmacist’s mate, where he was stationed at Parris Island, SC. He practiced medicine for over 35 years and delivered approximately 5,000 babies. Preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Thelma Jean Davis Howard; parents, Alfonso and Elizabeth Johnson Howard; sister, Hazel Howard Wyrick Huey. He is survived by son, Dr. David Howard and wife, Alice of Memphis, TN; daughters, Dr. Carol Howard Bell and husband, Mike of Philadelphia, TN, Diane Howard Marshall and husband, Randy of Jefferson City, TN; grandchildren, Michael Marshall, Luke Howard, Bryson Marshall, and Hope Carol Howard; brothers and sisters, Frank (Lois) Howard, Herbert (Nina) Howard, Daphine Howard Holder, Martin (Lois) Howard, Virginia Howard Shelby, and Virgie Howard Dugger; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Farrar Jefferson City Chapel with Dr. Robert Brown officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Family and friends will gather at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday morning at Pleasant Grove-Fielden Cemetery in New Market for a 10:00 a.m. graveside interment service with military honors by VFW Post #5266.
