JEROME PAUL HARPER, age 78, of New Market, TN passed away on December 2, 2016 after a lengthy illness. He was a member of New Market United Methodist Church. Mr. Harper was a professor of Spanish, Italian and German, and was the Head of the Foreign Language Department at Carson Newman University for 30 years, but his true passion was being a master gun engraver. He was also an active member of the Single Action Shooting Society and went by the alias “Vinegaroon.” He also performed many hours of community service by serving as a Spanish interpreter for the Spanish speaking community of Jefferson County. Preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Verta Harper. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Joyce Bible Harper; daughters and sons-in-law, Jerilynn Carroll (Randy), Carla Feltner (Kevin), and Carmen McGoldrick (Justin); grandchildren, Ryan, Jordan and Harper Feltner, and Oliver, Sophia, Owen and Sadie McGoldrick; sister, Patricia Christenson (Bob). The Harper family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice and to Sara Walker, Joe Wilson and Pat Housman for being special angels. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jefferson County Humane Society, PO Box 653, Jefferson City, TN 37760. Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Farrar Funeral Home. There will be a private graveside service.
