JEAN TRAVIS PETTIFORD, age 88, of Dandridge, TN passed away Saturday afternoon, June 20, 2009 at the Jefferson County Nursing Home. She was a member of the Bogarts Chapel United Methodist Church and was the Dandridge correspondent special reporter for the Citizen Tribune. Preceded in death by her mother, Rena Carter; husband, Dick Pettiford; daughter, Peggy Matthews; brother, Paul Travis. Survived by granddaughter, Kelly (Jim) Sternberg; great-grandchildren, Erik and Brittany Payne; sister, Marjorie Sandberg; sister-in-law, Helen Travis; sister-in-law, Betty Wade; brother-in-law, Jimmy (Carolyn) Pettiford; special cousin, Ben Sartin; step-children, Darren Pettiford, Mike (Karen) Pettiford, Diana (Donnie) Hobby and Claudia Baker; step-grandchildren, Shay, Chip, Blake and Ashley; several nieces and nephews. Jean will always be remembered for her friendliness and sense of humor, compassion for animals, being a big fan of the Vols and Lady Vols, and her devotion and love to her church. Funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Farrar Dandridge Chapel with Rev. Mike Ladd officiating. Interment graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
