JANICE W. PATTERSON, age 75, of Jefferson City, TN passed away suddenly on Friday, July 19, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Irene Whitlaw. She was a graduate of Furman University and received a master?s degree in education from the University of Tennessee. She taught for 20 years in the Jefferson County School System. She enjoyed her family, friends, traveling, cooking and crafts, and was a volunteer with the New Market Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, where she worked as a part time ministry assistant, and was also a member of the choir, had served as a deacon, and was actively involved in all aspects of church activities. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Truett C. Patterson; daughters and son-in-law, Anita Patterson of Greenville, NC, Leigh and Sammy Solomon of New Market, TN; grand dogs, Sydney and Ethel; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Richard Timmerman of Fort Walton Beach, FL, and Lynda and Jack Johnson of Belvedere, SC; and several nieces and nephews. Jan will be missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, Carson Newman University, Appalachian Outreach, or the charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 26, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City with Dr. Gene Wilder officiating. Graveside interment service will follow at Westview Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
