Janice Ruth Dodd

Janice Ruth (Brubaker) Dodd, 72, of Dandridge, Tennessee, passed away on June 11th at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family after a short journey facing pancreatic cancer. She was born to Melvin and Madeline Brubaker in Altoona, Pennsylvania on May 1, 1952. Janice's love and dedication were evident in her family. She is survived by her beloved husband, Kenneth Dodd; their son, Stefan (Sarah) Dodd; and daughter, Alexis Lane (Toby Watkins). Her role as a grandmother was cherished by Jeffrey and Kaysie Lane, and Keira and Anika Dodd. Her memory will also be loved by her brothers, Gregory (Karen) Brubaker and Thomas Brubaker, as well as her nieces, Brittany and Breanna Brubaker, and her nephews, Nathan and Matthew Brubaker. Janice's impact was not limited to her family, as her memory will also be cherished by her aunts, uncles, many cousins, and friends. Janice's professional journey was marked by dedication and service. She graduated from Altoona High School in 1970 and from LPN vocational-technical school in Altoona shortly thereafter. Her career in the orthopedic field spanned many years, and she also served as a school nurse at Seneca Valley High School in Germantown, MD. Her commitment to the youth was evident in her role as a dedicated youth group leader at Epworth United Methodist Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Janice and her husband's travels were not just leisure, but a mission. They volunteered with NOMADS, a mission of the United Methodist Church focused on new construction, remodeling, and repairs for churches, children’s homes, camps, outreach missions, and disaster rebuilding. Her artistic side was also a part of her life, as she enjoyed numerous crafting activities, hand-making clothing and textiles for friends and family, and painting in various mediums. Janice's selflessness was a guiding light in her life. As a certified volunteer at the Isaiah 117 House, she provided physical and emotional support in a safe and loving home for children awaiting placement. Her dedication to this cause was a testament to her character. She was also an avid fan of all things Disney, with her favorite character being Tinkerbell. As a volunteer speaker for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Jan touched many lives with her advocacy. Her big heart and love for her grandchildren were well-known to all who knew her.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday June 16, 2024 at 5:00pm at The Crossing Church, 2941 Douglas Dam Road, Kodak, TN 37764 with Pastor Kermit McPeek officiating.
