JAMES A. WHITTAKER, age 93, of Conway, SC and formerly of Jefferson City, TN passed away on July 13, 2009. He was a retired employee of U. S. Steel after 41 years of service, and was one of the original co-owners of Black Oak Boat Dock and owner of Mossy Creek Boat Dock. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and local sports enthusiast. Preceded in death by parents, Arthur ?Etts? Whittaker and Susan Hankins Whittaker; first wife, Eleanor Sherrod Whittaker; and grandson, Stephen Knight. He is survived by his wife, Lois Williams Whittaker; son, Jim (Nancy) Whittaker of New Market, TN; daughter, Sylvia (William) Knight of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Christopher (Debbie) Knight, Phillip Knight, Randall (Betsey) Knight, Nick (Gloria) Larrance, Andy (Jessica) Larrance; step-daughter, Marilyn (Donald) Smith; step-grandchild, DeLaney Smith; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Justin and Allie Knight, Beau, Nate, Drew and Tucker Larrance. The family will receive friends Thursday morning, July 16, 2009 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City and will then proceed to Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:30 a.m. graveside interment service with Reverend Doug Wilder officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 2011 Branner Avenue, Jefferson City, TN 37760.
