JAMES CLYDE ROMINES, age 83, of Dandridge, TN died June 8, 2009. A native of Jefferson County, Tennessee, he was preceded in death by his parents, Arvil Clyde Romines and Elsie Chambers Romines and a sister, Elizabeth Justice. Mr. Romines served in World War II with the 222nd Airborne Division during the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded his paratrooper and glider wing medals, along with the Bronze Star. He was employed by Bush Brothers for 11 years before moving to Memphis from where he retired as a Food Engineer for the Shelby County Government. A member of Grimes Memorial Methodist Church in Memphis, he served as song leader, trustee and a president of his Sunday School class. In Memphis, he was a Little League coach and served on the counsel for the Boy Scouts of America. A life long member of the VFW, he was a benefactor for the Food pantry and the Clothes Closet. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Alice Shropshire Romines; sons, James Stephen Romines and wife, Beverly Brooks Romines, and Charles Robert Romines and wife, Terry Pegram Romines; granddaughters, Tara Elizabeth Sutherland of Princeton, NJ, Jessica Brook Romines of Allentown, PA, Amanda Claire Romines of Dandridge, TN; sister, Shelbie Jean Thornton of Knoxville, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009 at First United Methodist Church of Dandridge. Interment will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, June 10, 2009 at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of James C. Romines to Dandridge Ministerial Association, P.O. Box 826, Dandridge, TN 37725.
