Richard Lindsey

James Richard Lindsey, age 83, of Dandridge, TN passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by parents, Horace Lindsey and Mary E. Lindsey, sister Nancy Asbury, father and mother-in-law Arville and Pearl Reneau, and brothers-in-law Vaughn Reneau, Herbert Reneau, and Robert Reneau. Richard grew up in Knoxville and attended Young High School. He spent a lot of time in Dandridge with his grandparents and other relatives, where he met Mildred, his wife of 64 years. Richard was a talented mechanic, having co-owned L & W Service Station in the Piedmont community during the 1970’s. He was also employed by US Steel, Corp. and ultimately retired from the Town of Dandridge Public Works Department. Richard enjoyed farming in his spare time, which also kept him busy after retirement. He never failed to help out a friend or neighbor when they needed mechanical work done for a tractor, truck, or vehicle of any kind. He loved sitting on his porch and waving at all the passing traffic and was delighted when friends would stop and sit awhile. Richard was a member of Grant’s Chapel UMC and a 32nd Degree Mason having membership with Brazelton Lodge #190 F&AM for over 55 years. Richard is survived by his wife, Mildred Reneau Lindsey, and daughters Debbie (Tim) Sharp, Susan (Kyle) Loveday, and Penny (Ed) Inman. He is also survived by grandchildren Lacey (Hayden) Reed, Lindsey Sharp, Kennedy Loveday, Kole Loveday, Katie Inman, and Logan Inman, as well as sister-in-law Wilma Reneau, several nieces and a nephew, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends from 4-6pm on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge. Masonic Rites and funeral services will follow with the Rev. Darrell Chambers and Rev. Kathy LaFollette officiating. The Interment and graveside services will be Sunday, February 23, 2025, at 2:00pm at Hillcrest Cemetery in Dandridge with Rev. Tommy Lindsey officiating. A Special thank you to Jefferson Park in Dandridge for their special care the past few months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grant’s Chapel UMC, P.O. Box 693, Dandridge, TN 37725.
