James S. (Jim) Whittaker

James S. (Jim) Whittaker, age 67, of New Market, TN passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011 at home surrounded by family and dear friends. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 113 in Jefferson City, where he served as commander several terms. He also served as 2nd District Commander, and East Tennessee Vice Commander of the American Legion State Department, and the Forty and Eight of Knoxville. He was employed for seventeen years by Magnavox of Morristown, seventeen years by U.S. Steele in Jefferson City, and retired from the Jefferson County Sanitation Department. He loved the great outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Jim was a loving husband, father, and ?pappy? to his grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Eleanor Whittaker; nephew, Stephen Knight; and father-in-law, P.V. Repass. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Nancy; step-sons, Nick and Gloria Larrance of New Market, TN, Andy and Jessica Larrance of Dandridge, TN; grandsons, Beau, Nate, Drew, and Tucker Larrance; sister, Sylvia and Bill Knight of Knoxville, TN; sister-in-law, Judy and Steve Jenkins of Oak Ridge, TN; nephews, Chris, Phillip, and Randy Knight and families of Knoxville, TN, Josh Jenkins of Nashville, TN; niece, Kristen and Jason Shubert and son J.J. of Knoxville, TN; mother-in-law, Betty Repass; and beloved dog, Rastus. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Covenant Hospice for their love and support. Celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Farrar Funeral Home with Rev. J.W. Taylor officiating. Graveside interment service will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens following the funeral service. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City, TN. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, Alzheimers Association of East Tennessee, or a Charity of your choice.
