JAMES PONDER HUGHES, age 91, of Dandridge, TN passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009 at his home. He was the son of the late Jim and Victoria Edmonds Hughes. Ponder was a retired farmer and employee of Bush Brothers and Co. after 30 years of service. He enjoyed working in his garden and fishing and spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly. Preceded in death by his son, Billy Wayne Hughes. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mamie C. Bush Hughes; children, Johnny Hughes and wife, Wanda, Brenda Donahue and husband, Raymond; grandchildren, Doug (Joyce) Hughes, Robin Hughes, Wendy Donahue (Jonathan) Hunley, Jennifer Donahue (Aaron) Hightower, and Shannon Donahue; great-grandchildren, Jesse Hughes, Aiden Hightower and Scout Hightower; daughter-in-law, Sandra Hughes; sister, Gladys Paul; several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Hills Union Cemetery Fund, 2383 Hills Chapel Road, Dandridge, Tn 37725. Graveside funeral service will be Sunday, January 18, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Hills Union Cemetery with Rev. John Clark officiating. Friends may call at their convenience Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home and other times at the family home.
