OBITUARY:
JAMES EDWARD HAMMOND, MSgt., U. S. Army (retired), age 78, of Dandridge, TN passed away January 13, 2008 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice following a battle with cancer. A native of Hawkins County, TN Hammond was a master sergeant in the United States Army, having served his country for 38 years, including service in Asia following World War II and as a paratrooper in the Korean conflict. Following his retirement from the military, he worked for the Sevierville Wal Mart store. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Preceded in death by parents, Loren and Edna Hammond of Surgoinsville; brothers, Bill and Bob Hammond of Surgoinsville; half-brother, Sam Sargent of Vancouver, Washington. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; children, Mike Hammond and wife, Vivica, Sharon Tackett and husband, Jimmy; grandchildren, Ryan Hammond and wife, Bonnie, Heather Carlson and husband, Jonas, Hannah Ledbetter and husband, Joe, Seth Hammond, Chastity Hale and husband, Jeremy, Tamara Chappell and husband, Anthony, Danielle Hurley and husband, Erik; great-grandchildren, Austin and Jasmine Hale and Rose Hammond; half-sister, Geneva freeman; brother, Max Hammond and wife, Phyllis; sisters-in-law, Virginia and Peggy Hammond; nephews, Roy Lee Freeman and wife, Faye, John and Sue Sargent and several other nieces, nephews and cousins; very special friends, Dennis and Louise Barney and Jim Sandidge. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 from the Farrar Dandridge Chapel with Reverend Scott Brady officiating. Graveside interment services with military honors will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Following the graveside service, the family will be at the home of Sharon and Jimmy Tackett. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
