JAMES CLAYTON FARRAR, age 89, of Jefferson City, TN passed away on Thursday morning, June 28, 2012 at his home. He was born September 26, 1922 to the late Roy E. Farrar Sr. and Aline Taylor Farrar, who were the founders of Farrar Funeral Homes. He was a life-long funeral director, being the oldest living funeral director in the State of Tennessee, and owner/operator of Farrar Funeral Home. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City, Jefferson City Civitan Club, Mossy Creek Lodge # 353, Scottish Rites Bodies and the Kerbela Shrine, long time member of the Jefferson City Volunteer Fire Department, and the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association. He was a proud veteran of the US Army, having served during World War II. Preceded in death by his parents; son, William “Bill” Farrar; sister, Elizabeth Farrar Smith; brothers, Roy E. “Toad” Farrar, and Joe T. Farrar and wife, Betty Goforth Farrar; brother-in-law, Jay Cox. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Agnes Watkins Farrar; sons, Britt Farrar and wife Stacey of Jefferson City, TN, Russell Farrar and wife Marion of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Tyler Farrar and wife Lasha of Branchland, WV, Taylor Farrar and Gage Farrar of Jefferson City, TN, Jennifer Farrar and Kate Farrar, of Nashville, TN, Clay Farrar of Florida; daughter-in-law, Mary (Scott) Snyder, brother, Dr. Bill Farrar and wife Frances of Brentwood, TN; sisters, Dorothy Smith and husband Jim of Bethel Park, PA, Brenda Juntumen and husband Frank of Everson, WA; sister-in-law, Helen “Pinky” Farrar of Dandridge, TN; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, W. B. “Bud” and Betty Watkins; sister-in-law, Nannie (Bertha) Cox; step-grandchildren, Ashley Eggers, Abby (Josh)Kinser; step-great-grandchildren, Kaidence and Ashton; several nieces and nephews; and all his family at Farrar Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012 at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City with Rev. Doug Wilder, Wayne Craig, Dr. Mike Sloan, Dr. David Howard, Jerry Griffey and Tyler Farrar officiating. Graveside interment service will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Family will receive friends Sunday, July 1, 2012 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
