JAMES EDWARD CURTIS, age 84, of Dandridge, TN passed away May 8, 2014 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. After graduating from Central High School, Jim joined the U. S. Air Force, serving seven years. He was a bomber pilot in the Korean War, where he discovered a love of flying that led him to be a flight instructor after his military service. In 1969, he graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in electrical engineering and joined the Knoxville Utilities Board, where his first job was to design the North Knoxville Substation. He worked in the Engineering Department for 10 years becoming Chief Engineer. He held several management positions throughout his 36 year career at KUB, ultimately serving as Senior Vice President of Electrical Operations until his retirement in May, 1998. He was a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a member of the Northside Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Dandridge, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank (Jake) and Mary Curtis and son, Mark Curtis. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Allen Curtis; son, Steve and wife Barbara, and son, Chris Curtis, along with 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; also his brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Emma Curtis. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City with Dr. Robert Brown officiating. Family and friends will meet at 3:30 p.m. following the service at Lynn-Hurst Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville for the graveside interment service. Friends will be received from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 951 S.
