James Collins

James Harris Collins, also known as “Papaw, Big Jim, Jimmy, Mr. Collins, Bird Dog and Dad” made his way home with the Lord on Tuesday, May 24^th, 2022.  He grew up in Goodlettsville, TN in a loving home with his parents and brother. Jim loved and excelled in all sports, where after graduating high school, he earned a basketball scholarship to Carson Newman College. It was there he met his wife, Doris Collins. He then pursued his Master’s Degree at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in Education and Administration.

Jim dedicated over 35 years to the public education System in Jefferson County. As a principal, he touched the lives of many as he was supportive, encouraging and giving to all. His door was always open, he knew no stranger and greeted everyone he knew with a smile, hug, joke, or his well-known “board of education”. Jim was the most loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His presence will be missed deeply for all who knew him.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Doris Collins, Brother Ben Collins, Parents Nancy and Frank Collins.   He is survived by his Sons, Brent Collins (Nicole), Todd Collins (Tonya) and Ryan Collins (Melissa), and grandchildren Braden, Avery, Mason, Eliza, Landon, Laura, Jordan and Lydia.

There will be a Celebration of Life service June 16th, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, TN.  Receiving of friends will begin at 4:00 followed by a service at 7:00pm.  All family, friends and students are welcome.
