James C. Burch, Jr. passed peacefully in his sleep on the evening of April 11, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Jim was raised on Corbett Road in Monkton, MD. Jim graduated from Loyola College in Baltimore, MD, where he formed lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for a successful sales career.
Jim began his professional life in sales with Ingersoll Rand in Timonium, MD. He later joined Gardner Denver Mining and Construction Company, where he devoted over three decades of service, evolving with the company through various changes in ownership. He served in many sales and business development roles - earning the respect and admiration of colleagues across the industry.
In retirement, Jim found great joy in working on his beloved 1937 Ford Salesman Coupe and a collection of classic cars that reflected his passion for craftsmanship and attention to detail. Jim’s garage was more than a workspace — it was a gathering place filled with stories, laughter, and the hum of engines from a bygone era.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, C. Suzan Burch, his four beloved children: Margaret Anne Stenger, James Henry Burch, Sr., Paul Frederick Burch, and John Andrew Burch. He was a proud grandfather to Richard Verchow, Jesse Verchow, James Henry Burch, Jr., Eleanor Donahue Burch, Amie Voith Morville, Kathleen Burch Swift, Thomas Burch, and great-grandfather to Sara Marie Kelly, Macy Patricia Sabin, Remy Constantine Morville, Eve Palma Swift, Mae Potter Swift, and Daisy Louise Swift.
He is also survived by his sisters, Jeanne K. Cole and Rebecca A. Parks, as well as nine nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Jim will be remembered for his quiet strength, his generous spirit, and his love of family, classic cars, and a well-told story. His legacy lives on in those who knew and loved him.
