OBITUARY:
IRVING CHESTER ?CHET? NOYES, of Jefferson City, TN, born July 24, 1916 in Colebrook, NH, died Wednesday, September 7, 2005. A retired educator, he was a graduate of Harvard University and had lived in Jefferson City since 1971. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U. S. Navy as commander of LST494 on D-Day at Omaha Beach and later in the Pacific Theater. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Walter Frederick Noyes and Marion Hordley Noyes; sons, Michael Vincent Noyes and Christopher ?Kit? Johnston Noyes; brother, Walter Frederick Noyes, Jr.; former wives, Lola Pierce Prentice and Kathryn Johnston Jahoda. He is survived by wife, Katherine Hallowell Noyes of Jefferson City; children, Jacqueline McAbery Poncè and husband, Charles of Mill Valley, CA, Gregory Walter Noyes of Petaluma, CA, Susanna Noyes Cooper of Anaheim, CA, Drew Walter Noyes and wife, Nitaya of Carolina Beach, NC and Petia, Thailand; brother, Dr. Bernard Burbank and wife, Hannah of Bronxville, NY; mother-in-law, Sarah Hallowell of Amherst, NH; sister-in-law, Carol Faber and husband, Don of Osprey, FL; brother-in-law, John Hallowell and wife, Anne of Durham, NC; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren; four nephews, two nieces. Memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at Farrar Funeral Home with Dr. William Blevins officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Colebrook Cemetery at a later date. Friends may make memorial gifts to Phillips Exeter Academy, 20 Main Street, Exeter, NH 03833 or to a charity of their choice.
