Irene (Haggard) Compton-Williford, age 99 of Dandridge and Strawberry Plains, TN passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Jefferson Co. Nursing Home.
Irene was a kind, loving and devoted person with a beautiful smile. She had a strong Christian faith and is greatly loved by her family and friends. Irene was an avid quilter and played in the Dandridge Senior Citizen's Band. She was a Charter member of Holston Memorial Baptist Church in Strawberry Plains where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School and is a current member of French Broad Church of the Brethren in Dandridge. She retired from Palm Beach Clothing Company in Knoxville.
Irene was preceded in death by her husbands Will Ed Compton of Strawberry Plains and Jake Williford of Dandridge; parents C.C. and Lula Haggard; four sisters, Anna Ruth Haggard, Cordlee Covington, Flora Williford and Tina Dockery, six brothers Bill Haggard, Charlie Haggard, Lloyd Haggard, Dee Haggard, Oliver Haggard and Frank Haggard.
Irene is survived by her children, Bill (Sue) Compton of Knoxville, Velma (Charles) Wright of Jefferson City, Lila (Alan) Morgan of Morristown, and Vivian (Bill) Watts of Bon Aqua, TN; three step-children, Velda (Bill) Clayton of Dandridge, David Williford of Dandridge, and Helen Judd of NC; brother, Alexander C. Haggard of Knoxville; sister- in-law, June Haggard of Kodak; six grandchildren, Cindy (Bobby) Haun, Kim (Mike) Wise, Deanene (Tom) Catani, Darin Watts, Todd Morgan, Beverly (Garrick) Jones; three step-grandchildren, David Williford Jr., Jonathan (Michelle) Williford, Karen (Chris) Reilly, and Susan Burton; eleven great-grandchildren, Ryan (Chelsea) Haun, Charla (Brandon) Olson, Trey Wise, Connor Wise, Spencer Wise, Ciarra Light, Karly Light, Lenney Watts, and Henry Jones; four great-grandchildren, Reagan Haun, Easton Haun, Cooper Olson, and Logan Olson; two step great-grandchildren Gavin Burton and Oliver Williford. The family would like to thank the staff of the Jefferson County Nursing Home in Dandridge and Smoky Mountain Hospice for their kind words and attentive care. Funeral services will be held Saturday evening, June 20, 2015 at 7:00 pm at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel in Jefferson City with Rev. Ron Wine and Rev. Bill Watts officiating. Interment graveside services will be Sunday 2:00 pm at Trentville Cemetery in Strawberry Plains. The family will receive friends Saturday evening 5:00-7:00 pm prior to services.
