JEFFERSON CITY, TN 37760 PHONE 865-475-3892 FAX 865-475-9916 OBITUARY: HERBERT SHELL PURKEY, SR., age 78, of Jefferson City, TN passed away February 28, 2009 at the home of his daughter. He was a member of Friendsview Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean War, having received the Purple Heart. He was retired from New Jersey Zinc Mines. Preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Jean Purkey; parents, Bob and Enna Purkey; several brothers and sisters, and infant son. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Tex Cooper; sons and daughters-in-law, Micky and Angela Purkey, Randy and Sandy Purkey; grandchildren, Bryan Cooper, Todd Bowman, Shelby Bailey, Kerri Farrow, Jerri Sinnock; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Tori Bailey, Katlyn and Ty Cooper, Makenzie, Montana and Austin Farrow, Dannelle and Jenna Sinnock, Zackery Bowman; sister, Blon Killion; special friend, Tammy Gann; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the Amedesis Hospice for all their support and care. A special thanks to Sherry Washuk and Kim Conary. Also to our dad?s pastor and his wife, Vernon and Jill Heatherly. They have been a rock for our family and loved our dad. Thank you for the many visits, phone calls and food from our church family and neighbors. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009 from the Farrar Jefferson City Chapel with Rev. Coy Warren, Rev. Jeff Wolfe and Rev. Vernon Heatherly officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. prior to the service. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at Farrar Funeral Home to proceed to Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service with military honors by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard.
