Helen Louise (Moody) Chandler, age 74 of Dandridge, TN passed away on March 18, 2025 after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout her illness, her personality and spirit remained true to who she was in health. She never forgot her loved one’s faces, how to smile, laugh, say “thank you” or “I love you”.
Louise, also known as Weezie by many close to her, was born at home in Grainger County, TN on October 9, 1950 to Isaac and Lillian Ruth (Jarnigan) Moody, the seventh of nine children. When she was a young adolescent, her family moved to a farm in New Market, TN, where she grew up a sharecropper’s daughter. It was here in Jefferson County where she developed a lifelong love of reading, won the county’s spelling bee, and played basketball for the Elks of Jefferson City High School.
Louise cherished spending time with family and friends, especially her sisters, her sons and their spouses, grandchildren and nieces Tonya Moody Walker, Tretha Moody and Elaine Lundy. One of her favorite pastimes was exchanging photos with relatives and looking at photo albums and recalling good memories. She was a stalwart of her family, often as a caregiver for her parents and several siblings. She provided kindnesses to many over the years, including financial assistance and a roof’s shelter from various storms of life. If you were family or she liked you, you knew she had your back. Louise doted on her sons from the time they were born, ensuring they were educated, active, well fed, had opportunity, never did without, and generally became good men. She was fun loving, quick with a laugh and a smile, and was treasured by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Wayne Moody and Fain Moody, sisters Elsie Hillard and Deloris Shope, and her dearest friend Margaret Jenkins. She is survived by sister Pauline Hodge, brothers Lester Moody, Dean Moody and Sam Moody, sons Hezekiah Wesley Chandler, Jr (Lynn), Heston Wade Chandler (Brandalyn) and Stephen Nicholas Chandler (Jen), grandson Drew Chandler, granddaughters Whitney Leon, Bhindi Guzman, Maggie Howard and Stella Howard, 25 nieces and nephews, and a multitude of great nieces and nephews.
A beautiful angel was given her wings and escaped these earthly confines, powered by the same love, light, and determination she shared with others throughout her life. While we are deeply saddened by the loss of Louise, we rejoice in knowing she is finally home with Jesus and her missed loved ones who passed before, whom she longed to be with again.
