Hazel Ratcliff Powell, died on May 18, 2003 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City, TN She was born in Leton, LA, mailing address, Shongaloo, LA, on July 31, 1914 to Hugh Ratcliff and Lillian Jane Page. The family moved to Queen City, Texas in 1921. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Queen City, where she served faithfully in several capacities, acting as church secretary, clerk, and treasurer, while teaching Sunday School classes. In the year 2000, she moved to Jefferson City, TN. She was preceded in death by her three husbands: Wesley (Bay) Clements, Frank Wall, and Palmer (P>G>) Powell; her parents; brother, Don Ratcliff and sister, Frances Olive. Mrs. Powell taught in Business College in Texarkana; worked at D & Z in Texarkana; was a clerk in the Post Office in Queen City; and served as City Secretary in City of Queen City. She retired from this position after her second marriage. She is survived by her nephew, Don Olive, Sr., and his wife, Judy of Jefferson City, TN and her niece, Karen Hopkins of Vallejo, CA; by several grand nieces and grandnephews: Don Olive, Jr., James Olive, Jennifer Olive, Sara Olive, Austin Olive, Kay Howe, Paula Hopkins and Andrew Hopkins, and by a special niece, Cheryl Clements Nicholas, Texarkana, TX; great grand nephew, Alex Olive; great grand nieces, Haley Olive, Ashley Olice and Charlotte Howe. She is also survived by her sister in law, Margarite Ratcliff of Marshall, TX. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Hanner Funeral Home of Atlanta, TX. Services will be held at First Baptist Church, Queen City, TX at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2003 with Don H. Olive, Sr. officiating. Interment will be at the Queen City Cemetery immediately following the services. Special appreciation is expresssed to Kim Shelton, Carol Carroll, and the staff at Changler House, Jefferson City.
