Harold Dean Kinder, 73, of Knoxville, TN passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 25, 2013 at his home. He was born February 17, 1940 in Jefferson City, TN to Hollis and Hazel Byrd Kinder. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1958 and Carson-Newman College with a B.S. in Chemistry in 1962. He worked at Tennessee Eastman Company in Kingsport as a research chemist for 31 years. He was formerly a member of Litz Manor Baptist Church in Kingsport for 41 years and was currently a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church in Knoxville. He is survived by: wife of 48 years Barbara Esther Bates Kinder; daughters Susan Kinder Gordon and Julie Kinder, both of Knoxville; son-in-law Francis (Frank) Gordon; grandchildren Diana Ruth and Stephen Dean Gordon; brothers Eugene Kinder and wife Patsy of Morristown, Don Kinder and wife Gail of Richmond, Virginia, and Kenneth Kinder and wife Beverly of New Market; and various cousins, nephews, and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Kaye Kinder. For several years, he did cancer research at Carson-Newman with Dr. Carl Bahner. After retirement, he enjoyed refinishing antique radios, watching John Wayne movies, and spending time with his grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 29 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City, with the service to follow at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, he requested donations be made to the Gideons International, 711 Hall of Fame Drive, Knoxville, TN 37917.
