OBITUARY:
HAROLD CLYDE (TOM) HOLT, age 81 of Jefferson City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at his home with his family after a long battle with prostate cancer. Harold was born in Corona, California on March 3, 1923 and grew up in Greeneville, Tennessee. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, where he had taught a boys Sunday School class. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Montgomery, which was sunk in the South Pacific and later aboard the USS Dennis J. Buckley. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local #5 and served as president of the SMW #5 Retirees Club. Harold coached and was treasurer of the Jefferson Little League Baseball for several years, and was the first president of the Jefferson County High School Band Boosters. As a long time member of the Jefferson County Lions Club, he served as president and chairman of the Sight Conservation Program. He received the Melvin Jones award for dedicated humanitarian services. Harold was recognized as a Hometown Hero by Modern Woodmen of America. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Steven Mark; parents, Willis J. Holt, Sr., and Bonnie Dunn Holt; sisters, Betty Catherine Holt and Irene Cogdill; brother, Willis J. Holt, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Adams Holt; daughters, Diana Dawn Goodwin of Port au Prince, Haiti, Kelly Delynn Holt of Chattanooga; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Denise and Michael A. Waterman; granddaughter, Erika Brianne Holt of Niceville, FL; sisters, Juanita Davis of Greeneville, Josephine Webb of Cleveland, TN and Shirley Conover of Knoxville. Family and friends will gather at Greenwood Cemetery on Saturday, July 24, 2004 for a 1:00 p.m. graveside service with Reverend Henry Davidson officiating. Volunteer State Honor Guard will confer military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jefferson City Lions Club and SMW # 5 Retirees. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jefferson City Lions Club Sight Conservation, P.O. Box 154, Jefferson City, TN 37760, or to First Baptist Church Global Missions Fund, 1610 Russell Avenue, Jefferson City, TN 37760. Friends may call at their convenience at the family home.
