Harold B. Calfee – Obituary

February 23, 1943 – June 18, 2024

Harold B. Calfee of Dandridge, TN, known by many as “Sarge” passed away surrounded by family on June 18, 2024, at the age of 81.  Harold is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Beverly, his son Bobby and wife Anna Marie, daughter Cynthia Calfee Myers and husband Mike, his four grandchildren Bailey (and her husband Zack), Tristan, Chloe and Chase; his sister Maxine Holt and brother-in-law Richard Courtney, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Worth and Charlsie Calfee, his parents-in-law Odessa Courtney, and A.J. Courtney; his brothers Gerald and wife Gretchen and their daughter Beverly; Gene and wife Mary, and Kenneth Calfee; his brothers-in-law Raybon Holt, Darrell Courtney and Joe Courtney and sister-in-law Susie-Courtney. Harold was born on February 23, 1943, in Newport, TN. He graduated from Newport High School in 1961 and soon met and married his loving and devoted wife, Beverly, on January 4, 1964. He entered the United States Air Force in January 1966 where he served as Sergeant, Armed Forces Police until January 16, 1970, when he left with honorable discharge to return home and to join the Tennessee Highway Patrol on April 6, 1970, which was always his dream. Early in his career he attended night school at Walters State Community College where he earned an associate degree in criminal justice. He proudly served until he retired early as a Sergeant on November 13, 1992. After retirement and unable to sit still, Harold spent many years working for Ben’s Home Center which he enjoyed immensely as he has always had “a gift to gab!” He also spent many years after retirement as a gentlemen farmer raising and riding horses with his family and beef cattle with son and wife. These were things that kept him happy and busy until he was unable to do these things. Earlier in life Harold enjoyed fishing and hunting with his wife, family and friends and spending time with his family on the lake or doing other activities. When he became a Papaw, he was a proud Papaw and devoted spending much time with all his grandchildren and spoiling them rotten. Harold was also a devoted member to Alpha Baptist Church in Talbott, TN where he served as a Deacon.  Harold will be missed by many in the community, but most of all his wife and family. We take comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering and that he had great faith and is talking up a storm in Heaven right now! There are many things Harold was known for and will be remembered by, but just a few are: his kind loving heart, his willingness to help anyone, how devoted he was to his wife and children, the fact that he never met a stranger and loved to talk, tell stories, sing and the great laugh that he had! Rest in peace until we meet again!  The family will receive friends and family from 5 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, followed immediately with a short service in Harold’s honor at Farrar Funeral Home, 162 E. Meeting Street, Dandridge, TN 37725. The burial service, with military honors, is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. Governor John Sevier HWY, Knoxville, TN 37920. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Harold’s life.  In lieu of flowers, you may send donations to his home church Alpha Baptist Church, 245 St. Johns Rd, Morristown, TN 37814.
