HANNAH HYLTON PEDERSEN, age 92 of Dandridge, TN formerly of Knoxville, TN passed away Saturday afternoon, November 7, 2009. She was born in Knoxville, TN on March 19, 1917 and attended the Old Knoxville High School where she graduated in 1935. Being proud of her heritage, she maintained contact with her classmates & actively participated in many high school class reunions throughout the years. Hannah attended the University of Tennessee for two years and then transferred to University of Tennessee's School of Nursing in Memphis where she was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1941. In June 1958, she received a Masters of Public Health Nursing from Columbia University in New York. During the construction of Fontana Dam she worked as an on?location nurse. She also served as a Public Health nurse in Knox County for many years completing her tenure in the position of Head Nurse at the Knoxville Health Department. Since retirement she has lived in Dandridge and been a member of First Baptist Church of Dandridge and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Hannah was known in Knoxville and Dandridge for both her civic and philanthropic involvement. The Division of Nursing at Carson-Newman College has named the Hannah Hylton Pedersen Nursing Building in her honor. Preceded in death by parents, P.D and Rosa Branson Hylton; husbands, Dr. Hufstedler, Walter Buchanan and Bob Pedersen; and siblings Pete Hylton, Lillie Mae Hylton Starmer, Harry Hylton and Clyde Hylton. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Dandridge with the senior pastor of the church, Dr. Robert F. Brown and retired pastor, Dr. Robert McCray officiating. The burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, November 11th, 2209 in Woodlawn Cemetery, Knoxville, TN. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6:00 to 7:00 pm prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund, P. O. Box 246, Dandridge, TN 37725.
