Halbert “Butch” Oakley Shelton, 78, of Dandridge, TN and formerly of Adrian, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 28, 2020 in the comfort of his home.
Butch was born in Wayne, Michigan to Betty Jane Covault Shelton and Willard Hines Shelton on February 20, 1942. He married his wife of thirty-nine years, Mary France Jones Shelton, on February 13, 1970. Butch had a wonderful career as an iron worker for the Iron Workers Local Union No. 25 for thirty-five years. After retiring, Butch worked at DollyWood where he drove trams and loved to put a smile on so many faces. Butch loved to work out in his yard and garden year round. Butch loved the mountains and outdoors. Putting up Christmas lights was another one of Butch’s favorite hobbies. His handsome smile, humorous laugh, and loving heart made a lasting impact on all of his family and friends.
Butch is preceded in death by both parents, Betty Jane Covault Shelton and Willard Hines Shelton; Wife, Mary France Jones Shelton.
Butch is survived by his brother and sisters, Gary Shelton, Sherry (Charlie) Springer, Marlene Edmunds-Keller, and Elizabeth Lane; three children, Cindy (Doug) Stoos, Theresa Hutchinson, and Mark Shelton; Grandchildren, Daniel Stoos, Matt Stoos, Christine Hutchinson, James Hutchinson, Braxton (Sydney) Shelton, and Kylie (Brandon) Mills; great-grandchildren, Molly, Gavin, Kaelynn, and Levi.
There will be no services held due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
