Gordon S. Kirtley, Jr., age 74, of Dandridge, TN passed away suddenly, Sunday, December 15, 2002 at his home. He was born May 13, 1928 in Huntington, W. VA and was the son of the late Gordon and Opal Thompson Kirtley, Sr. Preceded in death by his wife, Elise S. Kirtley. Gordon was a graduate of Moreheat State University, where he was honored as a member of the morehead State Football Hall of Fame. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Army Counter Intelligence Corp. in Germany from 1951-1954. Following his military service, he became a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, serving from 1955 till his retirement in 1980, being stationed in Chicage, Newark, NJ, and Knoxville, TN. He was a member of the Hebron Presbyterian Church and spent the majority of his retirement years in Dandridge and Jefferson County. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be made to the Elise S. Kirtley Scholarship Fund, c/o Jefferson County Nursing Home, 914 Industrial Park Rd., Dandridge, TN 37725. A private memorial service will be held at the Kirtley family cemetery, Hurricane, W. VA. The family will recieve friends Wednesday evening, Dec. 18, 2002 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
