On July 16, 2018, I began my journey home, ending the battle with HATTR. I was preceded in death by my parents; Walter G. Lindsay, Jr. and Thelma Franklin Lindsay and brother Steven Eugene “Gene” Lindsay. I am survived by my loved, and devoted husband of 48 years, James S. Kelley, our two loving sons; Sean S. Kelley and Patrick G. Kelley, a sister; Diane Matthews of Knoxville and brother; Gary D. Lindsay of Dandridge and their extended families.
I was born at Hunter AF Base Savanah, GA where I spent the first 16 years of my life going from base to base until dad retired. We settled in Dandridge where I graduated Maury High School Class of 1970. I was married June 6, 1970 and moved to Battle Creek, MI for 3 years until returning to Tennessee to stay in 1973.
I spent time as a substitute teacher, then as a partner in Lindsay’s Hardware with my husband Jim. My last job was leading water classes at JCCC until my disease no longer allowed me the strength to continue. It was in those classes that I learned I loved working with the young at heart as much as working with children. Sanctuary choir, children’s choir, handbell choir, VBS and the nursing home ministry were all such a blessing.
I want to thank everyone in my support group, church family at First Baptist, the Koinonia SS class, friends and loved ones for the prayers that saw me through some rough times. I especially want to thank Jim for his love and care of me and for my sons who were there for me. Life has been a blessing.
Memorial services will be held, Thursday, July 19, 2018, 7:00pm at First Baptist Church in Dandridge with Dr. Chris Headley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please feed the hungry by sending donations to Dandridge Ministerial Food Pantry, Blue’s Back Packs, Noah’s Arc or the local Humane Society.
