GLENN BURNETT, age 97, of Jamestown, TN passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Ben Atchley Veterans Home in Knoxville, TN. Mr. Burnett was born in Jefferson County, TN. He was the eldest of seven children. Preceded in death by his wife, Grace (Breeden) Burnett and son, Thomas Edward Burnett. In 1942 he joined the U. S. Navy, where he served as a diesel mechanic on the USS Guardfish at Honolulu, Hawaii. The USS Guardfish received two Presidential Citations for the most tonnage sunk during World War II. This was on thirteen war patrols out of Pearl Harbor. This was one of the proudest moments of his life. After the war he joined the family business, Burnett Produce in Talbott, TN. As the company grew, they moved to Morristown and later purchased a subsidiary in Jamestown, TN, Jamestown Broilers. Glenn managed this operation from 1962 to 1977. In retirement he loved to fish, hunt for bargains, travel and enjoy good meals. He frequently went to Georgia, Florida and South Carolina to pick up produce for his grocery stores in Clarkrange and Allardt. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Thomas Burnett and Rural (Roberts) Burnett; infant brother, Keith Burnett; brothers, James W. Burnett and Lloyd Ernest Burnett; sisters, Lida Frances Cornwell and Myrtle Elizabeth (Susie) West. He is survived by brother, Fred L. Burnett and wife, Nancy; daughters, Glenda Conner and Mary Charles Cate; grandchildren, Stephanie Ann Noble and husband, Mitchell, Wade Noble, John Thomas Conner and wife Allison Renee Conner, Stacy Lynn Mead and husband Kevin Alan Mead, Dr. Julia Grace Conner and Ethan Coffey; great-grandchildren, Camdon Thomas Conner, Zackery Barton Conner, McKinnley Garrick Conner, Jackson Glenn Conner, Caroline Grace Noble, Mary Elizabeth Noble, Henry Walker Mead, William Kennedy Mead, Maxwell Charles Mead; sisters-in-law, Mary Margaret Burnett and Carolyn Burnett. Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Farrar Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 2:00 p.m. military graveside interment service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation or ALS Association.
