Gertrude Georgianna (Glasser) Zander, 85, passed away on July 7th, peacefully at her home in White Pine with her husband Carl holding her hand.
Gertrude is survived by her husband of 58 years Carl A Zander, Sr, daughters Taryn (Alfred) Herzog, Dawn (Edwin) Modugno, sons, Carl (Annette) Zander, Jr , David (Jennifer) Zander, Sr Gary (Nancy) Zander, 21 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Amelia Sophia (Henning) and William W. Glasser, Sr, brothers George Arthur Glasser, and William Glasser, Jr.
Gertrude was born on July 2nd, 1930 in Hempstead, Long Island. She graduated from Bernards High School in Bernardsville, NJ in 1948. She married Carl Zander in 1957. During her lifetime she was employed by The Prudential Insurance Company, The Black Horse Inn, and the Mendham Township Board of Education.
Gertrude was an avid equestrian, participating in competitions and parades with her beloved horse, Sandy. She was a life long athlete, who especially enjoyed playing softball. Some her favorite activities included playing Mah Jong, gardening, watching her grandchildren compete in sporting events and spending time with them. With her husband Carl, she shared a love of camping and they traveled to all fifty states. She was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Morristown, TN, and a member of their ECW, The Martha Dandridge Garden Club, and the French Broads of Dandridge. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, life long volunteer to causes dear to her heart and a blessing in the lives of many.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 601 W. Main St, Morristown, TN, August 8th, 2015 at 12 o’clock noon, with receiving of friends prior to the service, from 11 am to noon. There will be a reception following the service in the parish hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Gertrude Zander.
