GEORGE YARDLEY, SR., age 86, of Mascot, TN, passed away Monday morning, April 24, 2006 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, following a brief illness. He was owner and operator of Yardley Well Drilling and Pump Srvice for over 45 years and served on the Tennessee Board of Groundwater Resources under five governors. He was an actibe member of the Mascot community, where he was a faithful member of the Roseberry Baptist Church, serving many years as the chairman of the trustees and was instrumental in the Family Life Center Building Program. He was a former Boy Scout leader, Little League, Babe Ruth League baseball coach, and had a great interest in the youth of the community. He was recently bestowed the honor of having the athletic fields at the church named the George Yardley Athletic Fields- Roseberry Athletic Complex. Mr. Yardley was a veteran of the 1st Cavalry of the U. S. Army during World War II and was awarded 4 Bronze Stars during his service in Luzon, Philippines and New Guinea under the leadership of general douglas McArthur. An avid gardner, he enjoyed his woodworking and tending to his apple orchard. Survived by wife, Ethel Slover Yardley of Mascot; son and daughter-in-law, George, Jr. and Billie Napier Yardley; grandson, Joshua Yardley, all of Dandridge; brothers, Danny and Cindy Yardley and Chip Yardley, all of Texas; special friends, Dr. Janet Purkey, Josh, Ben and Connor Gass. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at the family Life Center of Roseberry Baptist Church with Reverend Kenny Shinlever officiting. Interment graveside service with full military honors will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Roseberry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the Church Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Roseberry Family Life Center Building Fund, 2920 Roseberry Road, Mascot, TN 37806.
