George Garland Jr, 82, of White Pine, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 8, 2025 in the presence of his loving family. He was born in Erwin, TN on December 8, 1942 to George and Vivian (Lewis) Garland. He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Deana Joy Garland; two children, Felicia Garland and George William (Danielle) Garland; one son-in-law, Keith Neubecker; nine grandchildren, Dale Lyndon (Shelly) Garland, Alexandria Hardin, Britney Neubecker, Mindy (Jason) Moore, Leah (Tyler) Wadsworth, Anna Garland, Samuel Garland, Jonathan York, and Nathaniel York; five great-grandchildren, Vivian Garland, Lilly Garland, Lyric Garland, Emily Garland, Spender Hardin, and Bianca Garland; and two sisters, Shirley Sammons and Francis (Perry) Pinson.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George Edward Garland and Vivian Garland; daughter, Monique Neubecker; and grandson, Parker Garland. George was a charismatic, handsome, and caring man. After serving in the US Navy, he was known as a hard-working and creative entrepreneur, starting several businesses especially in the West Virginia coal mining industry. He loved to travel and made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed boxing, rugby, darts, pool, basketball, marksmanship, and telling jokes. He spent his retirement enjoying horses and watching old westerns (especially Gene Autry). He was known to switch channels in search of his favorite game shows, Walker Texas Ranger, and The Rockford Files.
A receiving of friends will be held at Farrar Funeral Home, White Pine, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025, with funeral services following at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Brian Osborne officiating. A Military Graveside Interment will be on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, Erwin, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, George requested memorial donations to be made to Boys Town.
