Rose, Fred A. -age 91, a lifelong resident of Knoxville,TN died Saturday morning October 10, 2009 at his Holston Hills home. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Married Couples Sunday School Class and had served as Chairman of the Board of Stewards of the church. Mr. Rose was a fifty year member of Shekinah Lodge #254 F&AM, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Knoxville Consistory, and Kerbela Shrine Temple. He was a former member and past director of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce and Better Business Bureau, former member and past Commodore of Fort Loudon Yacht Club, member and past director of Holston Hills Country Club, past president of the Greater Knoxville Funeral Director's Association, past member and president of the Tennessee Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers, and former member of the board of directors of the National Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards. He had been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Knoxville for more than 65 years. The family would like to acknowledge the care provided by his loving caregivers and St. Mary's Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank L. and Mae Bowers Rose; brother, Robert Rose, sister Carrie Mae Rose Lee; his wife, Phoebe Trenholm Rose; and daughter, Phoebe Alice Rose Watkins. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Rose Wheeler and David (Bo) of Pikeville, TN, Gail Rose Beech and Bobby of Lewisburg, TN, Jimmy Watkins of Fayetteville, GA; grandchildren, Fred S. (Skip) Wheeler and wife, Terri of Knoxville, Lisa Rose Wheeler Layton and husband, Troy of Huntsville, AL, R. Neil Beech of Lewisburg, TN, Ashley Beech Tatum and husband, Mike of San Rafael, CA, and Matthew C. Mahathey of Dawsonville, GA; great grandchildren, Phoebe Rose Wheeler, Lauren Alise Layton, Samuel Cole Wheeler, Bradford Wheeler Layton, Annie Rose Tatum, and James Robert Tatum; sister-in-law, Phyllis Trenholm Rainwater of Dandridge, TN; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Central United Methodist Church 1-2:00 p.m. Monday followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Bruce Galyon officiating. Interment graveside services will follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery. Pallbearers: Skip Wheeler, Neil Beech, Matthew Mahathey, Troy Layton, Sandy Rainwater, David McClellan, and Mike Tatum. Members of the Married Couples Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 201 East Third Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917.
